Green tea is rich with antioxidants and catechins, which are thought to play a role in reducing the risk of a number of diseases. Studies have also shown that the catechins found in green tea may enhance exercise-induced loss of abdominal fat and improve triglyceride levels. Other studies have shown that drinking green tea significantly increases energy expenditure—or metabolism—and has an effect on fat oxidation. Though some are speculative that the caffeine properties are the real fat burner, researchers have proved that the same amount of caffeine, administered on its own does not provide the same effects.
